Goodbye Oceanside, Hello Yuma

Today we packed up and headed back to Yuma. We will definitely miss Oceanside … the fun, the easy walking, and that laid-back coastal vibe. As an added bonus, the truck never moved, so we have enough fuel to get home, which is a very good thing considering the price of fuel in California! We are also really looking forward to getting back to Maxx and seeing our friends… our winter family. With lots of fun weekend events coming up, we are kicking things off right away because hubby’s cousin once removed and her husband arrive today for a four-day visit.

Before I get into all of that, I realized I kind of glossed over our stop in Carlsbad, CA in yesterday’s blog. Not because it wasn’t fun, but because it was too much fun and my blog was already getting long 😊

We had lunch at American Heroes and Brews, where we enjoyed fantastic food and, surprisingly, the cheapest meal of our four-day stay. As an added bonus, our server even gave us a free cheesecake. Perks of sitting at the bar and being friendly! Honestly, we were already stuffed and didn’t need dessert, but we didn’t want to be rude… so we ate it 🤣

After lunch, hubby led us to another spot called Docent Brewery. Along the way, we stumbled upon a farmers market, which was a great find. I picked up some fresh bread and fruit for the next few days.

Docent itself was a really cool place with a beautiful building and an awesome outdoor seating area, but unfortunately, the beer just didn’t quite hit the mark for us.

From there, we headed to Pure Brewing, conveniently located right across from the train station. We enjoyed a couple of yummy tasters while we waited for the Coaster to take us back to Oceanside.

We arrived back with just enough time to drop off our farmers market goodies and head down to the beach for sunset. All week I’d been keeping an eye on the sunsets from our unit and wherever we happened to be, and they hadn’t been anything special. Since it was our last night, we decided to go down anyway. It wasn’t the best sunset we’ve ever seen, but it was still pretty and we enjoyed every minute of it.

And that brings us to today. The morning started with my usual walk, which hubby has been joining me on and I have really enjoyed that. The main reason he joined me this morning, though, was that we woke up to no water. We had been notified when we arrived that water work would begin at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening and last about eight hours, but we were surprised when the water was turned off early at 8:00 p.m. and still wasn’t back on when we headed out at 7:00 a.m. Fortunately, our hosts had thoughtfully left us two large bottles of water, which was much appreciated.

We stopped at Succulent Coffee, a spot we noticed earlier in the week but hadn’t seen open until today. I grabbed a latte to go, which was just okay, and then we headed up the street to wander through the farmer’s market.

Succulent Coffee, a great atmosphere, and the only picture I took today.

After that, it was time to head back to our unit, pack up our belongings, and hit the road, a decision made much easier since there was still no water! The drive home was easy, with a stop at Costco in El Centro, California, to pick up a few groceries.

Until next time …
