A Desert Christmas

Yesterday our day started out with a hike through the Palm Slot.  I have posted pictures of this slot the last two times we did it so I won’t bore you with more 🙂

The Salton Sea looking pretty in the background … I wish it was that nice when we were up close!

We started off with sunny skies and wind and ended with cloudy skies and even more wind, but we still had a good hike.

Our day ended with an early Christmas dinner in the desert where Driving Miss Murphy joined us. Hubby found a turkey deep fryer on sale at Home Depot and fondly remembered the one he had before we sold our house and moved into Maxx. He gave that one to our son, but every time I do a turkey in the oven he misses his fryer, so I gave in and let him buy a new one. Now we had the fryer so the next logical thing to do was make a turkey dinner and that is always more fun to share with friends.

Hubby had to build a rock wall for wind protection but that wasn’t enough, so Driving Miss Murphy moved their truck in behind and hubby add our fold up table.

The four of us sat down to turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, carrots, green beans, and home made cranberry sauce. We had to forgo the cabbage rolls and perogies due to fridge space and prep time, and two people only need so many leftovers!

The turkey was yummy and we were all so excited to eat that I forgot to take pictures of the rest of the meal 🙂

We watched another beautiful sunrise this morning … one of the things I really enjoy about camping in Borrego Springs.

Until next time …
