Bend, Oregon

My sister and I went to Peter Skene Ogden High School so it was a no brainer that we had to stop when we came across the Peter Skene Ogden rest stop in Oregon. Actually we have past this place several times in our travels but this time we were on the right side of the road to stop. This rest stop has always intrigued me because I thought our school was named after a Canadian explorer and I was surprised that he was in Oregon. After some research I discovered I was right, he was a Canadian explorer. Along with exploring British Columbia he also explored the Snake River country between 1824 and 1830. During 1825 and 1826 Peter Skene Ogden travelled south from the Columbia River to the Deschutes River in Oregon … can you imagine him trying to get over this river without the bridge?

What does that have to do with Bend, Oregon? Well nothing really but it was on the way to Bend 🙂 We arrived in Bend just after lunch and quickly got set up. Despite hubby receiving some encouragement from a fellow blogger I made it to the outlet mall with credit card in hand 🙂 I like shopping in Bend because, aside from no tax, the RV Park is a five minute walk to the mall which means I don’t have to tow hubby along. Don’t get me wrong, he is a very good sport, but following me around shopping isn’t his favourite thing, so I rarely go shopping when we are south for the winter.

After my shopping trip, were I really didn’t find much to buy, we hit Costco to stock the fridge and freezer and then we enjoyed dinner at Silver Moon Brewery. That was hubby’s choice since they have a really good pumpkin beer.

Originally we planned on spending a few days in Bend but we are fleeing the cooler weather … and that was emphasized by the fact that it did snow today, but at least the flakes melted as soon as the hit the ground.

Tonight we plan to be in Anderson, California which should hopefully get us out of the snow zone.
